Bunge, DuPont's high oleic soybean oil trait on track for 2009 launch. 03-Jan-2007 By staff reporter Delaware-based DuPont have announced the completion of U.S. regulatory submissions for approval of its proprietary high oleic soybean oil trait.
Bunge and DuPont also have high-oleic and high-stearic beans in development, due to become available around 2008 and 2010-11 respectively. The companies claim that their high oleic/high stearic oil will offer food manufacturers a low trans, high solids baking ingredient for use in packaged foods requiring an extended shelf life such as cookies, crackers and breakfast cereals.

DuPont produces versatile new soybean oil
In addition to delivering at least 80 per cent oleic acid, the high oleic soybean oil trait has consistently demonstrated a linolenic acid content of less than three per cent, and over 20 per cent less saturated fatty acids than commodity soybean oil, DuPont claims. In 2010, DuPont Pioneer received approval to start marketing Plenish soybeans, which contain "the highest oleic acid content of any commercial soybean product, at more than 75 percent. Plenish provides a product with no trans fat, 20 percent less saturated fat than regular soybean oil, and more stable oil with greater flexibility in food and industrial applications."
