Engine Oil Extraction Page 2 YBW
I have a Kubota based 10 HP and want to drain the old engine oil, never done it before but read that you have to use some sort of extraction pump to suck it up through the dipstick pipe. The dipstick pipe doesn't seem very big, what diameter tube do these pumps have to fit down into the sump ? Does the engine need to run beforehand or will it work with cold oil ?

I have a Seago oil extractor pump that does eventually remove the expected quantity from the sump, but it takes about 20 minutes of regular pumping to achieve this. I thought that once the vacuum had been created, no or little further pumping would be required. Am I wrong, or is there possibly a fault with the pump? Thanks,

I have a small electric jabsco type impeller pump which has been excellent. Had it with the boat from the previous owner 4 years ago, same impeller, it's been absolutely fine. For ease of use I mounted it in a wooden box with 1/2" hose permanently attached, and a switch, and have used it for all sorts of liquids oil changes, bilge water, diesel, all excellent and effortless.
I use a Pela extractor pump and bought non Volvo oil from the local Volvo dealer it is about 2/3 of the price, identical spec and the one they use themselves unless the customer specifies they want Volvo oil.
