Cargill’s Progress Reports on Cutting Conflict Palm Oil
Cargill dresses up its progress by talking about the initiatives it has undertaken on its own plantations only. However, Cargill is both a major importer of palm oil into the U.S., and has a two-part business model in the palm oil industry: it both owns and operates palm oil plantations in Indonesia and it purchases and trades palm oil and its derivatives worldwide.

Cargill publishes first palm oil progress report Cargill
Cargill committed to sustainable, deforestation-free, socially responsible palm oil in its new palm oil policy, launched in July 2014, and repeated that pledge at the U.N. Climate Summit last September in New York City. Regular progress reports are part of the commitments made in the new policy.

Cargill Releases New Commitment to Fix Its Conflict Palm
Cargill is the largest importer of palm oil into the United States. Palm oil is used in roughly half the packaged goods sold in grocery stores and products containing Cargill-sourced palm oil can be found in most Americans. Rainforest Action Network (RAN) has publicly pressured Cargill to adopt a responsible palm oil policy since 2007.
More than 95% of our palm oil volume comes from third parties (about 1,700 mills). Cargill sources palm oil from more than 10 countries and delivers it to hundreds of customers worldwide. Our suppliers are subject to Cargill’s Policy on Sustainable Palm Oil and our Supplier Code of Conduct.

CARGILL: Timeline to Transformation Rainforest Action
To highlight the stakes involved, RAN released a report profiling KLK, one of the most notorious producers of Conflict Palm Oil, and a key supplier to Cargill. The report demanded Cargill meet or beat the progress of other traders and implement a responsible palm oil sourcing policy that blacklists any company that produces Conflict Palm Oil
